Majid Al Futtaim Spotlights Carrefour’s 2023 Achievements on the Occasion of its 21st Anniversary in Egypt

  • Majid Al Futtaim, which owns the exclusive rights to operate Carrefour in Egypt, reflects on its significant milestones and positive contributions in 2023 and its strategic plans for 2024, emphasising its commitment to supporting the Egyptian economy. Driven by its dedication to enhancing the shopping experience while providing its customers with a diverse range of products at affordable prices, Carrefour Egypt kicked off its 21st anniversary on January 1, 2024, and set to continue till February 13, 2024.

Under the theme "21 Years of Savings and Beyond", customers can enjoy an exceptional shopping experience, benefiting from exclusive discounts of up to 50 per cent on a range of products and appliances, including electronic and home appliances, smartphones, and laptops.

To continue providing enhanced convenience, Carrefour has partnered with prominent banks and Buy-Now-Pay-Later platforms. These collaborations – which include for the first time the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), along with Banque Misr, Commercial International Bank (CIB), ValU, QNB ALAHLI, Souhoola, AMAN, Forsa, and Contact now, provide diverse and flexible payment solutions for customers, enabling them to enjoy 0% interest, instalment plans ranging from 3 to 18 months, and other payment options at Carrefour stores and on the MAF Carrefour application, subject to terms and conditions. Additionally, and in line with introducing its anniversary offers, Carrefour ensures the availability of sufficient stock at competitive prices for all its customers.

Additionally, Carrefour launched a competition for 21 soon-to-be brides and grooms for the second consecutive year. Customers can participate in the competition during the anniversary period, according to the terms and conditions announced on Carrefour’s social media platforms, offering them a chance to win select electrical appliances.

Commenting on the anniversary, Philippe Peguilhan, Country Manager of Majid Al Futtaim Retail in Egypt, stated: “At Carrefour, we take great pride in our presence in Egypt as a strategic partner and a leader in the retail sector for over 21 years. Our commitment to supporting the local economy spans two decades, with investments of up to EGP three billion.”

He added: “We have proudly created over 7,000 direct job opportunities, and provided high quality products at competitive prices, which further showcases our unwavering support and ongoing advancement of the retail sector in Egypt. Our vision remains steadfast – to create great moments for everyone, everyday by offering a unique shopping experience to our customers, as we continue to work in parallel to contribute to the Egyptian economy and the local workforce.”

In line with Majid Al Futtaim Retail’s responsibility to the local community, it launched the Retail Graduate Programme in 2023, appointing 12 university graduates in its first round. This programme entails intensive practical training over two years, covering various departments to provide a comprehensive understanding of the retail sector.

As a testament to Majid Al Futtaim’s commitment to expansion in Egypt, it opened seven Carrefour stores in 2023, bringing the total number of stores to 70. The stores serve 36 million customers annually with their wide range of food and non-food products, totalling up to 50,000 items, 99 per cent of which are locally sourced.

Looking ahead to further growth in 2024, Majid Al Futtaim plans to invest EGP one billion in expansion plans, opening 25 new stores, creating 1,100 job opportunities, and introducing over 1,000 SKUs of Carrefour’s Private Label products. Majid Al Futtaim also aims to grow Supeco, a low-cost hybrid model that merges traditional supermarkets with wholesale warehouses. The plan is to invest EGP 3.5 billion to establish 140 stores by 2030, strategically located in the Delta and Upper Egypt, among various other governorates.
