Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised an online awareness workshop to discuss the new conditions and standards of the Global Excellence Award by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). The workshop also discussed the participation mechanism and evaluation of the updated EFQM 2020 model, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of DEWA’s leaders and internal team members across its divisions attended the workshop, in collaboration with the EFQM Middle East office in Dubai.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA praised the strong collaboration between DEWA and EFQM to update the award’s model, in line with the rapid global changes due to the coronavirus pandemic. Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s keenness to enhance its positive and effective role in promoting excellence locally, regionally, and internationally, by supporting international excellence initiatives to further develop concepts and principles as well as new EFQM 2020 standards, in addition to its role in practical testing.

“We work in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to overcome challenges in the journey towards excellence and make the UAE number one in all areas. DEWA increases its efforts to consolidate its leadership in the energy and water sectors globally, preserve its gains by harnessing excellence, leadership, creativity, and innovation in our daily work. This advances performance, efficiency, and service to the highest standards locally, regionally, and internationally to reach advanced levels of excellence and leadership. The EFQM framework aligns with our excellence journey and our vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation as well as our commitment to consolidate our global position in different excellence areas. DEWA is determined to win the Global Excellence Award 2020 granted by EFQM by achieving 800 points, the highest level of excellence,” said Al Tayer.

DEWA is the only non-European member to prepare the model as a strategic partner in all international activities and programmes related to the EFQM 2020 model, which contributes to promoting DEWA as a leading international corporation. DEWA is also participating in the current challenge round of the award competition, which is based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), economic integration and other factors.

DEWA received the Global Excellence Award granted by the EFQM in 2017. DEWA was the first non-European organisation to receive this award and the first in the Award’s history to win it on first application, achieving the Platinum category along with leading companies and institutions that promote sustainable excellence.
