H.E. Hisham Tawfik, Minister of Public Business Sector, witnessed the
signing of two cooperation protocols between the Engineering
Automotive Manufacturing Co. (EAMCO) and El Nasr Automotive
Manufacturing Co. (NASCO) with Brightskies, an Egyptian company
specialized in the development of embedded control systems for
electric vehicles, with the aim of deepening and localizing the
development and manufacturing of the automotive industry in Egypt.
The first protocol between the Engineering Automotive Manufacturing
Co. (EAMCO) and Brightskies entitles for developing an electric bus
prototype, in which EAMCO will produce the bus and Brightskies will
contribute to the development of the power battery pack and powertrain
electronic control unit.
The second protocol, signed between El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing
Co. (NASCO) and Brightskies, includes a feasibility study between both
parties with the aim of establishing an R&D center for power battery
packs, electric powertrain systems and other automotive subsystems
based on Brightskies global expertise in this field.
The protocol is expected to pave the way for the establishment of the
first Egyptian R&D center for the electric car industry after the
completion of the six-month feasibility study, with the location of
the center to be agreed upon based on what the study will recommend,
taking into account the potential of utilization of El-Nasr Automotive
Company capabilities.
The signing of these protocols is an ambitious step to deepen and
emphasize the localization and manufacturing of technological
components to the future of the Egyptian automotive industry.
H.E. Hisham Tawfik, Minister of Public Business Sector, said that the
cooperation with Brightskies reflects Egypt’s keenness to maximize
engagements with the private sector, especially in light of the
technological revolution and trends happening within the electric car
industry.
Within the same context, Eng. Wafa Tawfillis, Executive Managing
Director of the Engineering Automotive Manufacturing Co. (EAMCO),
praised the protocol, statiing: “This is a first step towards the
production of Egyptian vehicles with clean energy. The first stage is
the production of natural gas buses, while the next stage will be the
electric buses.”
Eng. Hani Al-Kholi, Managing Director of El Nasr Automotive
Manufacturing Co. (NASCO), said that this move confirms the return of
El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Co. not only to the production of
electric cars, but also to produce Egyptian cars that will be
competitive locally and internationally with the hands and minds of
the nations’ people.
Dr. Khaled Elamrawi, CEO of Brightskies, expressed his happiness at
the signing of the two cooperation protocols, noting that it
represents a serious first step to deepen the localization of the
electric car industry in Egypt in order to support research and
development efforts to produce and develop exclusive Egyptian parts
and systems in the field of automotive electronics.
The automotive industry will be witnessing a technological revolution
in Egypt within the coming period, with the introduction of autonomous
driving cars, electric vehicles as well as connected cars, which will
ultimately increase Egypt’s capability to further grow in the area of
technological components in cars, mainly represented in electric
circuits and software development, which has been a competitive edge
for Egyptian engineering calibers.
It is worth mentioning that the implementation of El Nasr Automotive
Manufacturing Co. plan with Dongfeng will begin within the second
quarter of 2022, when the E-70 electric vehicle will be launched,
which will be available during this period.
