Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Tony West, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Uber, on Thursday, during a US Chamber of Commerce gala dinner in Washington DC, along with the leaders of 20 other American companies.
During the discussion, West reaffirmed Uber’s ongoing commitment to the Egyptian market: “Egypt is one of our fastest growing and dynamic markets. This year, we proudly reached a milestone of completing 500 million rides, helping millions of riders move across cities and creating more than 700 thousand economic opportunities for Egyptians. We remain committed to supporting transformation projects that will unlock mobility options for the entire local community,” said West.
West expressed Uber’s mission to deliver a much broader economic impact in the Egyptian market, including Uber’s global commitment to becoming a zero-emission mobility platform by 2040, which was reflected in its participation at Cop27; launching financially inclusive payments solutions for drivers; and choosing Egypt for many global-first launches, such as Uber Shuttle and Uber Shuttle for Business.
