Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is organising the first World Excellence Summit on 19 and 20 November 2019. The summit, which is held for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), brings together prominent excellence specialists from around the world as well as officials from local and international excellence programmes. These include the Sheikh Khalifa Excellence Programme; Dubai Government Excellence Programme (DGEP); the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM); the King Abdullah II Center for Excellence from Jordan; and the Egypt Government Excellence Award.

The two-day summit at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre features panel discussions and presentations on different areas of excellence and sustainability in operations; including governance, project management, innovation, best practices in future-shaping, and a distinguished employee award. Registration is now open on www.worldsummit.ae

We are inspired by the wise words of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who said, ‘We look forward to excellence as a challenge rather than an achievement. Achievement is what we attain for the future of our people; while the march of excellence continues and does not stop at any limits or borders.’ At DEWA, we realise the importance of excellence as one of the key tools to transform into the government of the future. DEWA was the first government department to receive the DGEP award based on the fourth generation of government excellence system. This new system improves work by using innovative standards based on the results that focus on excellence in government services. This achieves the highest standards of people's happiness. The World Excellence Summit will be a means of improving performance and sustainable excellence. It will support the efforts of local and federal organisations to instil and promote a culture of excellence by making use of international experts as well as sharing knowledge and best international practices in excellence. This, in turn, contributes to implementing the standards of corporate excellence, thus enhancing the competitiveness of the UAE,” added Al Tayer.

Keynote speakers in the summit include an array of excellence experts including Dr Harland James Harrington, CEO of Harrington Institute, California, USA and author of over 35 books related to organisational performance improvement; Suresh Lulla, Founder of Qimpro Consultants and a veteran quality professional for over 50 years; Dr. Stefan Hagmann, Professor of Corporate Governance and Business Development and a full-range EFQM-accredited Assessor Trainer;  Dr. Brett Trusko, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics at Texas A&M University; and Dr Vittorio Cesarotti, Professor at University of Rome, Italy; among other specialists.

The summit’s topics include Best Practices in Governance; Best Practices in Project Management, Best Practices in Future Shaping, Best Practices in Services, Best Practices in the Distinguished Employee Award, and Best Practices in Excellence categories.

In addition to DEWA, local and federal organisations will take part in the summit. These include the Ministry of Climate Change & Environment; the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources; Dubai Police; the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, Dubai; Dubai Media Incorporated; the Environment Agency–Abu Dhabi; Abu Dhabi Digital Authority; Abu Dhabi Housing Authority; and Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company.
