Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, communities, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East, Africa and Asia — has opened its largest regional Carrefour online fulfilment centre in Saudi Arabia. Located in Riyadh, the facility has been set up to ensure the quick and efficient preparation and delivery of products to online shoppers across the capital.
Inaugurated in the presence of officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, the new fulfilment centre spans 9,000 square metres. Over 500 colleagues fulfil customers’ needs with a range of over 12,000 essential grocery products, fresh fruits and vegetables, cleaning products, and more, delivered through 150 refrigerated trucks. The centre arrives in response to the exponential growth in online shopping following the COVID-19 pandemic, and will contribute to keeping pace with the increased demand.
Hani Weiss, Chief Executive Officer at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said: “In light of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the retail sector has rapidly evolved in line with changing customer expectations. The pandemic has brought about an unprecedented acceleration of digital adoption, and this has required us to be agile in our operations and mind-set. This creative resolve has enabled us to quickly enhance our online capabilities to cater to the new norm which is why we launched our largest fulfilment centre in Saudi Arabia to cater for the exponential demand for e-grocery.”
The new centre in Riyadh is the tenth and largest fulfilment centre operated by Majid Al Futtaim, following the opening of other centres across the Kingdom in Riyadh, Jeddah Medina, Dammam, and Khobar.
The centre adopts the highest international standards in preparing and packing orders and following health and safety protocols, through refrigerated trucks and ice boxes to maintain the appropriate temperature during delivery to customers.
