Uber announced offering free trips for riders looking to receive COVID-19 vaccination in Cairo, in support of the government’s efforts to contain the virus. Each rider will be offered 2 free Uber rides, up to EGP 100 each, to and from Egypt’s largest vaccination center located at the Cairo International Convention Center. The initiative is valid until August 5th.

This comes as part of Uber’s global pledge (Move What Matters) to facilitate 10 million free or discounted rides to support those who want to get the vaccination, and in support of the public authorities and cities as they work to fight the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the MENA and Pakistan region, this initiative has previously been rolled out 7x across KSA, UAE, Lebanon, and Pakistan in collaboration with the relevant public authorities.

Ahmed Khalil, General Manager of Uber Egypt, commented: “At Uber, we are always in motion to support the community in any way we can.

We have been working relentlessly since the virus outbreak with a main goal in mind; helping protect users’ safety and health when moving. Offering free rides could encourage more people to get the COVID-19 vaccination without having to worry about safe and convenient transportation to and from the Cairo International Convention Center, which supports the Egyptian government's efforts to curb the virus.”

Riders can book their eligible trips by taking the following steps:

    1.  Click on the URL link received from Uber via SMS or email

    2.  Tap on ‘Accept voucher’

    3.  Voucher details will appear including the expiration date and location

    4.  Voucher will appear in the Uber Wallet

    5.  Navigate to the rides home screen and enter the pick-up/drop-off location for yourself or the person you are booking for. Make sure to start the trip or end it at the Cairo International Convention Center listed.

Uber has launched several initiatives to help curb the virus curve since the outbreak.

The company launched the Uber Medics program to provide healthcare workers with free and discounted trips, and rolled out additional safety measures and in-app reminders to follow advice from public health authorities to help protect both riders and drivers.
