Spotify today introduced Messages in Egypt, a new way for friends and family to discover and share music and podcasts on Spotify, all in one place.
Recommendations have always been at the heart of the Spotify experience. Friends and family share their favorite content millions of times each month, and Spotify users have consistently expressed the need for a dedicated space within the app to share the audio they love. For artists and creators, easier sharing means more word-of-mouth recommendations and helps create new fans.
Starting on November 12, Messages will roll out to Free and Premium users aged 16 and older on mobile devices in select markets, including Egypt.
HOW MESSAGES WORK
● Messages are one-on-one conversations where users can share Spotify content and react with text and emojis.
● When listening to a song or podcast in the Now Playing view, tap the share icon, select a friend, and hit send.
● Once a message request is accepted, users can reply, react with emojis, and continue sharing Spotify content back and forth.
● Messages are accessible by tapping the profile photo in the top-left corner.
● Users will see suggested people to message based on whether they have previously shared Spotify content with them, joined Jams, Blends, or collaborative playlists together, or if they share a Family or Duo plan.
MESSAGES PUT USERS IN CONTROL
Users remain in full control of their experience. They can accept or reject message requests, block users, or opt out entirely through Settings. Spotify’s Terms of Use and Platform Rules apply to all Messages.
To help ensure a secure sharing experience, conversations are protected with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. In line with Spotify’s platform best practices, the company will utilize proactive detection technology to scan messages for certain unlawful and harmful content, and moderators will review reported content. This two-pronged approach helps offer a safer environment while respecting user privacy.
As always, users can continue sharing Spotify content directly through platforms like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, TikTok, and more. Messages are designed to complement — not replace — these integrations, expanding the ways users can share what they love.
