Amazon hosted tech professionals from across the country during its first event focused on technology and innovation in Egypt, CAI TECH 2022: Design @ Scale. The conference on May 25 showcased innovation and best practices, where executives shared knowledge with local and regional Amazon leaders. In its first edition, CAI TECH tackled various topics, including building software solutions at scale, and shared career opportunities for local software engineers, developers, and applied data scientists at Amazon Egypt. Omar Elsahy, Amazon Egypt General Manager, inaugurated the event alongside Faisal Rafi, Director of Technology for Amazon’s Middle East and North Africa region (MENA), and Omar Halabieh, Head of Technology of Amazon Payment Services Payments for MENA.
In his opening remarks, Elsahy welcomed attendees and highlighted Amazon’s growing presence in Egypt. He emphasized on Egypt’s local talent and the benefits of Amazon’s global expertise and best practices. Elsahy added: “We are very excited to launch the first CAI TECH event connecting with some of the brightest minds and vibrant talent across Egypt, as they come together with Amazon leaders across different areas. Since we launched Amazon.eg, we have been continuously innovating on behalf of customers while providing opportunities for local talent to progress in their careers and acquire an abundance of learning opportunities. Our investment and expansion plans further affirms our commitment to Egypt’s Vision 2030 agenda for a ‘Digital Egypt.’”
CAI TECH 2022 focused on Amazon’s culture of innovation and customer-centricity, career growth, and the importance of diversity and inclusion within Amazon, especially towards women leaders in technology. The event also included a Q&A session for participants to directly engage with Amazon employees during the conference.
Rafi’s presentation focused on how Amazon builds world-class services for customers in the region to meet their everyday needs. He said: “Amazon is a company of builders. This first event perfectly demonstrates the synergy that exists between innovation and customer-centric thinking. We are very proud and thankful of the exchange that took place, as our teams at Amazon are engaging with incredible tech talent from Egypt.”
Halabieh talked about the journey of digital payments and career growth opportunities at Amazon Payment Services, saying: “There has been some major development in digital payment solutions, which has empowered thousands of local Egyptian businesses over the years. We look forward to growing the next generation of builders in the digital payments space right here in Egypt to continue to bring effective solutions to all types of merchants, big and small.”
