Telecom Egypt, the leading provider of telecommunications and information technology services in Egypt, revealed that Regional Data Center 2 (RDH 2) has obtained the distinguished Tier III design certification from Uptime, the world leader in setting standards for digital infrastructure and data center performance, after a comprehensive evaluation by a team of specialized experts.
This comes as a continuation of the great success achieved by Regional Data Center 1 (RDH 1), which reached full occupancy within one year of entering service and obtaining Tier III certificates in the design, construction and management of data centers from the Uptime Institute. Obtaining this certification for RDH 2 confirms Telecom Egypt’s commitment to maintaining the highest international standards for data center efficiency and ensures that the engineering and architectural plans of the center meet all safety, efficiency, sustainability, mechanical, electrical and construction standards, as is the case with RDH 1.
RDH 2 represents a major expansion in Telecom Egypt’s IT infrastructure, with the total capacity of the center estimated at 4.6 MW, compared to 2.5 MW for RDH 1. This expansion aims to meet the growing demand for secure and resilient Tier III data center services, and provides the ability to expand further in the future, ensuring business continuity and improving corporate services, especially those switching to cloud computing.
Telecom Egypt seeks to ensure that RDH 2 is compatible with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, which reinforces its commitment to developing data centers that adhere to sustainability and energy saving standards. This program includes global standards for evaluating key elements of facilities such as energy, water, waste, transportation and customer satisfaction. This initiative highlights Telecom Egypt’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint by improving resource efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
Telecom Egypt is enhancing its sustainability goals and achieving operational excellence through the integration of sustainable design and optimal and effective use of resources, reflecting the company’s commitment to the broader perspective of environmental responsibility and long-term growth, with the aim of reducing the impact of development on the ecosystem locally, regionally and globally.
The implementation of RDH 2 is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. This will enhance Telecom Egypt’s leadership in the data center market in the region by benefiting from connectivity to 13 submarine cable systems, with plans to increase them to 18 by 2025. This will contribute to enhancing Egypt’s strategic role as a global communications hub that provides advanced infrastructure and unparalleled reliability in the ICT industry.
“We are pleased to receive the Tier III design certification for the RDH 2 data center and will continue our pursuit of obtaining all three certifications from the Uptime Institute for the new center. This achievement reflects our full focus on providing world-class data center services that meet the demands of the evolving digital economy. This expansion is in line with Telecom Egypt’s strategy to drive digital transformation and improve telecommunications services by supporting businesses and communities with the latest technologies. We are working to enhance the digital economy in Egypt and contribute to building a more connected and inclusive world. Achieving sustainability, innovation and inclusiveness will remain a key focus in our mission to improve lifestyle and achieve a prosperous and sustainable future for Egypt, the region and the world,” said Eng. Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and CEO of Telecom Egypt.
