Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, is participating in a roundtable discussion on technological sovereignty in practice, to be held online on September 28. The event is organized by Analytics for Africa in collaboration with Maastricht University and the African Centre for Technology Studies.

The roundtable brings together policymakers, regulatory representatives, prominent figures from the private sector, and researchers from across the continent to explore ways to translate technological sovereignty strategies in African countries into tangible realities and identify effective tools. Discussions will focus on three main themes: data localization and hosting, the impact of government procurement and prioritizing local content on national capacity building, and the terms of contracting for digital infrastructure, computing capabilities, and artificial intelligence.

Egypt is one of five countries selected by the organizers to be featured in a chapter of a forthcoming book, along with Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and Côte d'Ivoire.  Egypt was chosen for its experience in dealing with cyberspace as an extension of its physical borders, and for its "cloud-first" policy, launched in 2024 and currently being implemented.

The Ministry of Communications' participation reflects its commitment to exchanging practical expertise with partners in Africa and strengthening cooperation in the areas of digital sovereignty and technology governance.
