Kaspersky revealed its latest statistics on the cyberthreat landscape in Egypt during the FDC Summit 2026, reporting a 14.5% decrease in the total number of threats detected and blocked in the country during the first half of 2026, compared to last year. During this period, 1Kaspersky’s solutions blocked over 21.4M cyberthreats targeting users and organisations in Egypt.
According to Kaspersky’s telemetry, almost all types of cyberthreats declined, with exploits being the only category to record an increase, rising by 40% in comparison to last year. Exploits are malicious techniques or programs that take advantage of vulnerabilities in legitimate software or operating systems, allowing attackers to gain unauthorized access, execute malicious code, or compromise targeted systems. As organisations across Egypt continue to digitise their operations and rely on increasingly complex IT environments, vulnerabilities can provide attackers with opportunities to bypass traditional security controls. To reduce these risks, organisations should implement technologies that can detect and prevent exploitation attempts such as Kaspersky Next, showcased at the FDC Summit 2026.
Ransomware attacks, seen as one of the most disruptive forms of cyberthreats, and attacks targeting remote workers through Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) saw the biggest decrease, falling by 42% and 41%, respectively. Spyware attacks, which secretly monitor user activity, declined by over 32% while banking and financial malware, fell by over 31%. Other types of cyberthreats, such as password stealers and backdoor attacks, also recorded decreases of 22% and 8%, respectively.
“While the decrease in overall threat detections in Egypt during the first half of 2026 is good news, organisations should continue to prioritise effective cybersecurity protection. The threat landscape is constantly evolving, and the significant increase in exploits demonstrates how attackers are adapting their methods,” said Rashed Al Momani, General Manager for the Middle East at Kaspersky. “Organisations need to take a proactive approach to vulnerability management and deploy layered security capable of detecting and responding to increasingly sophisticated threats.”
