Huawei Organizes the First ICT Talent Bank Annual Conference

Attended by the Minister of MCIT, Minister of manpower, the Minister of higher education, and Chinese ambassador, Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology, organized the first ICT Talent Bank annual conference on the 1st of October in Cairo, Egypt. With the intention to accelerate digital transformation and maximize digital dividends, the conference advocated an aggressive strategy to identify young talents and nurture their capabilities.
“In Huawei ICT Talent Bank we build an open, dynamic ecosystem for shared success. We collaborate with all parties, including governments, industry organizations, enterprises, universities, and other academic institutions.” Added Vincent Sun, CEO of Huawei Egypt “Egypt has a young population that is full of potential. Therefore, it is our responsibility to continuously cultivate these young people and form the ICT Talent Bank as a step toward making Egypt a hub for ICT talent in the future.”
After highlighting the importance of digitalization and the government’s strategy to invest in local talents, Amr Taalat the minister of Communications and Information Technology described the ministry’s partnership with Huawei as an influential milestone towards cultivating Egyptian talents and achieving digital transformation. “The ministries in attendance today aim to create and support new calibers in order to offer more job opportunities, enhance the citizen’s experience, rationalize the usage of national resources and regain Egypt’s status as an essential destination for ICT intelligence.” Taalat previously visited Huawei’s headquarters to discuss the company’s capabilities in chip set and cloud computing.
Mohamed Saafan, the Minister of manpower was more focused to tackle the subject of mutual support between Huawei and the ministry. “What we saw today is spectacular because it aims to invest in the intellectual potential of youth and that is the wisest investment in the world. The ICT talent bank is a key pillar for Huawei and we support their initiative and hope to make the best use of it in the coming period.”
Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research was also keen to discuss the importance of the current collaboration between the government and Huawei in order to encourage research and development. “Today’s initiative ‘reach, train and recruit’ by ICT talent bank is amazing because we have already worked with Huawei in universities through their specialized academies and we have also collaborated with them in training fresh-grad calibers. Technology is set to change the way we know life in the coming five to ten years; therefore, it is important for us to prepare our youth to the careers of the future.”
“Huawei is one of the biggest suppliers of ICT solution in the Egyptian market and it has also participated positively in the network construction of Egypt.” Added Liao Liqiang, the Chinese ambassador to Egypt “the Egyptian youth is outstanding and quite smart so china is very glad to cooperate with Egypt in regards to technology and smart economy development.”
Determined to invest in young local talents, Huawei is already in the process to establish Huawei ICT academies. After signing a deal with the ministry of higher education to have academies in private and public universities over the coming three years, Huawei aims to welcome 12,000 students per academy; divided between two main specializations; networks (Switch, routers, servers) and clouds (IoT, big data and artificial intelligence).
