President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Doreen Bogdan Martin, Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in the presence of Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Adel Darwish, ITU representative and director of the regional office in the Arab countries.
This came as part of the activities of the Global Conference of Telecommunications Regulators (GSR-23), which is being held under the auspices of the President of the Republic, which was hosted by Egypt in Sharm El-Sheikh, with the participation of 700 telecom regulators, policy makers and industry representatives from more than 100 countries. The official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, stated that Mr. During the meeting, the President affirmed Egypt's keenness to enhance cooperation with the International Telecommunication Union and participate effectively in its work and activities, in light of its pioneering role as one of the United Nations agencies specialized in the field of information and communication technology, and the global platform it represents for governments and the private sector in this field, referring to the state's interest in Through the "Digital Egypt Strategy" to promote the telecommunications and technology sector and develop its infrastructure as Egypt's gateway to the future.
For her part, the Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union appreciated Egypt's role and extended contributions to the work of the Union, the latest of which is hosting the current edition of the Global Forum for Regulators in Sharm El-Sheikh, which is an important international forum that enjoys wide participation for cooperation and exchange of experiences among all concerned parties in this field worldwide. This reflects the confidence of the international community in the Egyptian telecommunications and technology sector and its capabilities, expertise and promising future, stressing the Union's interest in deepening cooperation with Egypt in this regard, which contributes to supporting the digital development process in it, especially in light of what I sensed of the state's intense interest in this sector.
