Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised the seventh Future Engineers winter camp. This is part of its efforts to promote innovation and creativity among the next generation. Around 30 students aged 12 to 15 years old, who are children of DEWA employees attended the camp. The camp was organised at DEWAs ‘Reading is Positive Energy’ at Zabeel Park in Dubai.
This years camp introduced the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, including fighting poverty and protecting the earth, using technology to protect future generations and learning to programme through Scratch and Blockly. The camp focused on the benefits of Internet of Things (IoT), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide energy and water. In this way, the students can look forward to a promising career by learning important technical skills. It also raises their awareness of using renewable energy, through hands-on experience in technological creativity and potential fields in engineering
“DEWA is keen on organising the summer camp annually, in line with its vision as a globally sustainable innovative corporation and enhancing creativity and innovation in society. This supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support and spread the culture of innovation. His Highness once observed: Our responsibility is to prepare generations for future and our ambitions are to have scientists who contribute to the progress of mankind. The camp is an opportunity to provide students with technical skills, and develop their scientific research, innovation, and creativity. It motivates the new generation to learn science and technologies, supporting DEWAs objectives to consolidate an advanced environment of science and knowledge. This contributes to achieving the UAEs National Advanced Sciences Agenda 2031, which aims to develop advanced solutions for future challenges in support of the government's efforts to achieve the objectives the UAE Centennial Plan 2071 and the UAE National Agenda 2021, said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
The camp has achieved significant successes since its launch four years ago. It attracted 193 participants who innovated 80 promising projects as an outcome of the interactive workshops, seminars, and various quality activities, under the supervision of specialists in every field, added Al Tayer.
“We are keen to play an active role in the community to foster creativity and scientific innovation in our future generations, as part of our social responsibility. DEWA attaches great importance to its employees and their children and strives to provide them with an inspiring environment for learning science and technology. This will help them become pioneers in these fields in their university life, said Al Tayer.
The participants happiness rate of the previous camp in August 2019 was 100%. Parents highlighted the importance of the camp and its ability to consolidate a culture of innovation and creativity among the next generation, as well as the fun and entertainment content for their children.
